Terms of Use

The legally binding text of these terms is the Japanese version. This English translation is provided for convenience; if there is any discrepancy, the Japanese version prevails.

These terms govern the use of the facilities and the membership system of Shobukai YOSHINKAN Gym (the “Gym”). Members and trial/visit users (together, “Users”) must agree to these terms before using the Gym.

Article 1 (Eligibility)

We refuse enrolment and use by anyone who falls under any of the following. If such a fact comes to light after enrolment, membership may be revoked.

1. Persons belonging to, or associated with, antisocial forces
2. Persons who have caused serious trouble at the Gym or at another facility
3. Persons with a record of serious crimes such as sexual offences
4. Persons prohibited from exercise by a doctor or similar (please consult us about use within a permitted range)
5. Any other person the Gym judges to be unsuitable

Whether a person falls under the above, and whether enrolment is accepted, is determined according to the Gym’s own standards.

Article 2 (Enrolment procedure & membership fees)

1. On enrolment, please submit the enrolment application/terms form, the current month’s fee (pro-rated if you join mid-month) plus the following month’s fee, and a copy of your ID, and complete the direct-debit setup (available online).
2. Monthly fees are collected on the 5th of each month by automatic bank debit or credit-card payment (a 10% payment-processing surcharge is added for credit cards).
3. The conditions for the annual-payment discount and the family discount are as set out in the membership guide. Discounts cannot be combined.
4. Fees already paid are not refunded, except where the cause is attributable to the Gym.

Article 3 (Enrolment of minors)

Minors need the consent of a parent or guardian to enrol. For junior members, training and match participation are decided in consultation with the parent or guardian, after confirming safety.

Article 4 (User conduct)

1. Follow the instructions of coaches and staff, and train with due care for safety.
2. If you feel unwell, do not push yourself — tell a staff member before training.
3. Use equipment and facilities correctly, and return them to their place after use.
4. If you have tattoos, please cover them with clothing etc. as far as possible, out of consideration for other users.
5. Please refrain from directly supporting individual fighters — professional or amateur — inside the Gym. For support or sponsorship, please consult the Gym.
6. Do not disturb other users, solicit them, or film/stream without permission.

Article 5 (Safety management & insurance)

1. Users shall understand their own state of health and train within the limits of their physical condition.
2. Please take out sports insurance or similar cover yourself.
3. Partner training such as sparring is conducted only when a coach approves it, with safety measures such as protective gear.

Article 6 (Disclaimer)

1. The Gym is not liable for injuries, accidents, or ill health occurring during use of the facilities, except in cases of the Gym’s wilful misconduct or gross negligence.
2. The Gym is not liable for theft or loss inside the facilities. Please look after valuables yourself.

Article 7 (Leave of absence & withdrawal)

If you wish to take a leave of absence or withdraw, please follow the Gym’s prescribed procedure. Details of the deadlines and method are provided at reception.

Article 8 (Changes to opening hours & closures)

Opening hours are Monday to Friday, 15:00–21:00 (last entry 20:15); the Gym is closed on weekends and national holidays. The Gym may close temporarily over the New Year period or when staff are away for competitions and the like. Changes and closures are announced on this website and elsewhere.

Article 9 (Suspension & expulsion)

If a User violates these terms or engages in conduct that obstructs the operation of the Gym, the Gym may suspend or revoke their membership. In that case, fees already paid are not refunded.

Article 10 (Photography & video)

Filming and publication carried out by the Gym for publicity purposes are handled as set out in the Privacy Policy.

Article 11 (Amendment of these terms)

The Gym may amend these terms as necessary. Important changes are announced on this website and elsewhere, and continued use after a change is deemed acceptance of the amended terms.

Article 12 (Governing law & jurisdiction)

These terms are governed by the laws of Japan. Any dispute between the Gym and a User is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Tachikawa Branch of the Tokyo District Court as the court of first instance.
